Water contamination is one of our biggest issues in the environment today. Many people don't realize it but it's YOUR health at risk , Your family's,children's,siblings, friends parents health not only that , the environment its self is harmed.Environmental Protection Agency's calculated that on average 40% of the nations surveyed that rivers , lakes and estuaries were extremely polluted to be able to swim in,fish in and use as basic water supply. When drinking your so called ''fresh'' water you are also drinking water that includes chemicals. Such as mercury, lead, nitrates, grit, phosphates, asbestos, sulfur and sulfur acid, oils, caustic soda and other sodium compounds. Not only that big companies for example Coca Cola and other large manufacturing plants leak off poisons, and other noxious byproducts. The construction industry release cement, metals and poisonous solvents. Industrial plants use big machines that need to be cooled often , to prevent things like fires from happening , to do so they need to use large amounts of fresh cold water , this water is warmed after being used and let back out into our rivers and lakes changing the living conditions for the animals and plants. Every year 300-500 million tons of toxic sludge and heavy metals accumulate from industry's .In Foreign countries 70% of industrial waste is dumped into water. Damaging perfectly usable water supply. Is this what you want to be drinking? . Is this what you want the people around you to be drinking ? . Ask yourself these simple questions and realize that water contamination doesn't only effect surrounding countries but your's as well.

I agree. We need to take into consideration that not the countries who have contaminated water suffer, but we do as well. Because, we’re the ones who have to help those countries, which don’t get me wrong, is a good thing – but that leaves us without, & by the time it comes back to us & we need the help, we won’t have anything left because we’ve let it get polluted. We’re all under the impression that water is just a resource that we will ALWAYS have. Which isn’t the case anymore, maybe it was, 70 years ago, not anymore. That’s why we need to do something right now. We’re just all in doubt at the moment, we aren’t looking at the facts because it’s almost like society doesn’t want to believe what’s happening. Well.. it’s happening & it’s happening fast & people need to come to the realization that something NEEDS to be done before it’s too Late.

I agree with Clare’s post. We definitely don’t think about what we are putting into our bodies when we take a sip of water, like where did this “fresh water” come from and what might be in it. These big companies that use water for their products don’t think twice about where they are taking this water from and how badly others need it. Almost toxic waste being thrown into lakes and rivers were people get their so called “fresh” drinking water from. Every year millions of people die from lack of water or the pollutants in the water. But they are not the only ones poisoning our drinking water. We are also to blame for that. Pouring unwanted chemicals down our drains is also a big player in this deadly cycle. Once those chemicals are in the water system most cannot be removed. They go back into our pipes and out our taps for us to consume. People always seem to put the blame on each other but really if we all just realized that we are all a part of this then maybe we could actually take action against it and one day our water problems might come to an end. Other then contaminating the water, we are taking the privilege of having clean water away from other who needs it just as much as we do. What makes people in poor countries any different from us? They deserve the right to have water when they need it just like us. But no, people around the world don’t get the amount of water they need very day and they are dieing while we take an extra five minute shower and swim in our pools.

Your Health Is At Risk . Empty End Pollution!

Post  Yasmeen Zoubi Thu Dec 30, 2010 3:26 pm

I agree with your post. People should not be polluting water because others are going to eventually drink it. When they drink the contaminated water, their health would definitely be at risk. They can get many illnesses as a result. Also, many people pollute lakes and rivers. Because of this, many fish and other water creatures would, without any doubt, be under a great deal of harm. As for the chemicals that are found in the water, they should be cleared and removed in order to keep our people safe and free from harm. In addition, this would save the lives of many water creatures and they would therefore be able to live happily with no harm or danger whatsoever. Also, I believe that the water which is being used for cooling down machines must not be returned to lakes. The returned water holds a large amount of sludge and metals, and this creates severe pollution and danger! Therefore, all of this pollution must stop so we can drink healthy water as well as have a healthy environment.

I fully agree with Yasmeen. We are eventually going to use the water that people release their toxins into. People don’t realize that we need every drop of clean water we can get. Blue Green Algae is a bad toxin that is in the water. Blue Green algae causes people to have health issues such as vomiting, diarrhea, sore red throat, headaches and skin rashes. It even effects dogs , cows, and soil. Blue Green algae also releases oxygen which is also positive for our environment. You would think after all the oil spills that have occurred in our waters, we would be more cautious and take more responsibilities. The Government is continuing to drill for oil in our oceans, without the proper equipment, and without a backup plan for when things get out of hand. Such as what happened with the oil spill in Mexico. For a more healthier environment we need to be more cautious.

Your Health Is At Risk . Empty Before it's to Late .

Post  ShEmA rAnGiRa Fri Dec 31, 2010 9:23 pm

I completely agree with Clare’s post. Water contamination is an ever growing threat to our environment and I don’t believe enough is being done to stop it; it’s not going anywhere it’s only getting worse. According to Nicholas John Ashbolt from the University of New South Wales poor water quality, sanitation and hygiene account to about 1.7 million deaths a year world-wide (3.1% of all deaths). Nine out of ten such deaths are in children and virtually all of the deaths are in developing countries. It seems as though the governments are blinded to these FACTS because if I ever became aware that 1.7 million deaths a year, and nine out of ten of those people were children, were caused by water contamination something would be done to prevent it. If this information is not enough to open the eyes of the government then what is enough? Will they wait till half of the worlds population has died of water contamination? Something should be done , no , something should have been done by now. There are other ways , better solutions than just dumping waste into the rivers we just have to put our heads together and we surely will find a way to make our environment a cleaner place. It's not to late , let us not wait until it is.
